Slovak American Center Announces Scholarship Winners in December


A meeting of Branch 844 was held after its Annual Slovak Christmas Mass on December 18, 2011 during which winners of the Scholarship Grammy Awards in California were announced. The Slovak American Center in Los Angeles announced the scholarship competition as open for area students who are Slovak or are of Slovak descent on April 2011. Eligible applicants were asked to write an essay on subject: “Why I want to know and preserve my Slovak heritage,” with a $500.00 first prize, $300.00 second prize, $200.00 third prize, and $100.00 fourth and fifth prizes. Fr. Pavol Sochulak judged the essays with following results:

3. Kristina Konkol-Mroczkowski
4. Christopher Konkol-Mroczkowski
5. Matej Balun

Consulate General of the Slovak Republic joined in the award ceremony and Milan Kovac Vice Consul presented winners with book prizes as well.

The Slovak American Center wishes to congratulate the winners and wish all participants a very good and successful school year 2011/2012.
